SKILL OF PROBING QUESTIONS

Are you going to need more information? Are you looking to find a deeper meaning? Perhaps asking a probing question will help you get to the bottom of things. Probing questions are not just about clarifying specific details; instead, these questions dig much deeper than the surface. An effective probing question helps to get a person to talk about their personal opinions and feelings, and promotes critical thinking. Probing questions are typically open-ended, meaning there is more than just one response. Most probing questions begin with 'what,' 'why' or 'how.' If you want the person you're asking to expand on their response, the use of the word 'exactly,' or the phrase 'can you explain further' should get you there. Probing Questions vs Clarifying Questions It can be argued that a clarifying question is a type of probing question because the goals of the two questions are the same - to get more information. However, a clarifying question...

SKILL OF ILLUSTRATING WITH EXAMPLE

Skill of Illustration It has been observed that some abstract ideas or concepts are very difficult to teach. In spite of their best efforts of explaining the concepts, the teachers are unable to convey the true sense and meaning of the concepts. This difficulty of  the teacher can be solved easily if they are able to master the skill of illustrating with examples. Components: 1.Formulating Simple Example. A simple example is one which is related to the previous knowledge of pupils. It should be according to the age level, grade level and the background of pupils. 2.Formulating Relevant Example An example is relevant to the concept, when the concept or the rule can be   applied to it. This means to say that the rule is explained by the example. 3.Formulating Interesting Example An example is interesting if it can arouse curiosity and interest of pupils. This can be judged by the attending behaviour of students. If the pupils keenly attend to the example, it is real...

SKILL OF CHALK BOARD WRITING

Image
How often do you stop to look at your chalkboard work from your students' point of view? Probably, almost anything you put on the board will be clear to you; the test that you must pass is to make your chalkboard presentation clear to a student seeing it for the first time. The guiding principle should be: Look at your writing as though you were a student in your own class. Keep these three points in mind while planning your board presentation: 1. Let your students see and read what you have written. Illegible or obscured work is valueless. 2. Give students time to copy what you have written. Most students don't think analytically while they are writing. 3. Organize your board work. It will help students interpret their notes and an organized board models good notetaking. These points are taken up one at a time in the following discussion. ·Even in an average sized room, students in the back rows may have trouble reading words in a small handwriting, Unless the fl...

SKILL OF REINFORCEMENT

Image
Reinforcement is used to promote learning and to draw the attention of the students. SKILL OF EXPLAINING

Image
Skills of Explaining To present the subject matter in a simplified form before the learners and making it acquirable is known as explanation skill. It involves ability of the teacher to describe logically’ how’, ‘why’ and ‘when’ concept etc. The teacher has to give proper explanation and reasons to bring clarity and proper understanding of what is being taught. SKILL OF SET INDUCTION

Image
What Set induction is about preparation, usually for a formal lesson. When the students are set, they are ready to learn ('are you set?'). Set induction is thus about getting them ready, inducing them into the right mind-set. How Sets are used before any new activity, from introduction of a new concept to giving homework. It is important in each set both to create clarity about what is expected happen (both what you will do and what they should do), and to create motivation for this to occur, with students being fully engaged in the learning. Set induction can be done by such as: Explaining potential benefits to the learner. Giving clear instructions. Describing what is going to happen. The STEP acronym may be used to help remember what to do: Start: Welcome the students, settle them down and gain attention. Transact: Understand their expectations and explain yours. Link with previous learning. Evaluate: Assess the gap between their expectations and current rea...

MICROTEACHING

Micro-teaching is a teacher training and faculty development technique whereby the teacher  reviews a recording of a teaching session, in order to get constructive feedback from peers and/or students about what has worked and what improvements can be made to their teaching technique. Micro-teaching was invented in the mid-1960s at Stanford University by Dwight W. Allen, and has subsequently been used to develop educators in all forms of education. In the original process, a teacher was asked to prepare a short lesson (usually 6 minutes) for a small group of learners who may not have been his/her own students. This was then recorded on video. After the lesson, the teacher, teaching colleagues, a master teacher and the students together viewed the videotape and commented on what they saw happening, referencing the teacher's teaching objectives. Watching the video and getting comments from colleagues and students provide teachers with an often intense "under the microscope"...

TEACHERS DAY CELEBRATION

Teachers' Day is a special day for the appreciation of teachers, and may include celebrations to honor them for their special contributions in a particular field area, or the community in general. The idea of celebrating Teachers' Day took root in many countries during the 19th century; in most cases, they celebrate a local educator or an important milestone in education. This is the primary reason why countries celebrate this day on different dates, unlike many other International Days. For example, Argentina has commemorated Domingo Faustino Sarmiento's death on 11 September since 1915; while in India Guru Purnima is traditionally observed as a day to venerate teachers, the birthday of the second president Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan (5 September) is also celebrated as Teacher's Day since 1962. At morning session Divya ma'am gave all of us a pen and a milki bar with a greeting.we also surprised ma'am by giving a dress. Wishing you all a wonderfull teachers day...
